The Perfect First Date Outfit?

Picture this: You’re waiting to meet your date for the first time at your favorite bar. The weather is warm, the bars are lively for the first time in a year, you’re nervous but excited to meet her. You smooth your t-shirt down and look around. Every other guy at this bar is in a button down. Your stomach sinks. It’s too late to change now. She walks in. She’s beautiful, stylish, confident. You’re excited, but a lingering worry whispers in your ear: Do I look okay?

Before you panic, let’s review some facts. You are not the only one who faces this fear, and you are not the only one who struggles to pick an outfit for dates. Most men understand that their looks and style are important to their dates, and a majority of men don’t know what looks good on them, or find it difficult to assemble an outfit for specific occasions. Odds are, I’m talking about you. Why does this matter?

For one, more than half of women surveyed believe their dates “need to dress better.” Ouch. But more importantly, it matters because your outfit isn’t just the articles of fabric on your body. Your outfit is your first impression and a lasting one. Even before the date, a majority of women note that a man’s looks and style are what initially attracts them to his dating profile. Over 90% of women have a distinct preference for what their dates wear on a first date. Spoiler, it’s not a t-shirt and shorts. What’s more, 75% of women believe that a man’s style is important to them as they start dating them longer term.

But Marie, what matters is on the inside, right? Yes; and you should be proud of what you have to offer your dates. You should feel confident on your dates, and your outfit should reflect and boost that confidence, not drag it down. Over 73% of men indicated that what they wear on dates directly impacts their confidence on that date, and women note that a man’s confidence makes them more likely to want a second date.

What I’m trying to say is that your outfit should be the thing that adds to your confidence and reflects who you are. Dress as the date you want to be. Choose your outfit to show the best version of yourself and make the best first impressions.
